DESARU, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Defending champion Yeo Jin Rong successfully defended his Men's U-20 Desaru-Pengarang Sprint triathlon title here today.
The 17-year-old from Kuala Lumpur returned a time of 43mins and 4secs to finish way ahead of the field in the three-event discipline comprising the 500m swim, 18km cycle and 3km run.
"Of course, I am satisfied after winning the title for the second consecutive year.
"I am looking forward to a hattrick of wins next year and today's victory will make up for the disappointment of having finished second at the Dualthon Bayu in Kedah and fifth at the Tasik Kenyir Triatlon in April," said Jin Rong.
Finishing second and third behind Jin Rong are two other Malaysians, Barry Lee and Ho Kok Yaw, respectively.
Lee clocked 45mins 43secs while Kok Yaw returned a time of 45min 53secs.
In the 21-39 age group category, Jonanthan Vincent from Australia triumphed in a time of 42mins 33secs.
Coming in second was Patrick Poetzsch from Germany in 42min 41secs while Malaysia's Frankie Ambrose was third in 43mins 52 secs.
An estimated 1,000 athletes took part in the two-day event, with the Johor Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports Jais Sarday giving away the prizes.
